EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is an evidence-based therapy for treating trauma and post-traumatic stress. Panic attacks, grief, phobias, addiction, abuse, violence and many other kinds of psychological stress have been successfully clinically treated with EMDR.
I use this approach to address where the brain is "stuck" in the healing process after trauma has occurred. Because trauma can cause our brains to become frozen on the event, remembering it often feels like reliving it with the same degree of intensity. These especially painful memories have lasting negative effects on the way we perceive the world and how we relate to other people.
This level of emotional stress can take its toll on our physical health, affecting our ability to rest, our immune systems, and our digestive systems, as well as create other upsets such as fatigue and headaches. Through EMDR, I can address the way the brain processes traumatic information so remembering no longer feels so immersive and intense.
The number of sessions will be determined by many factors, including the type of issue, your personal circumstances and the amount of trauma. I will work with you individually on a comprehensive treatment plan so you can live life unburdened by the past.
